This was my first time using shea butter. My jar is VERY grainy – somewhere between brown sugar and kosher salt – and I hate that. I don’t know if it’s this particular brand, or if that’s just the way shea butter is all the time. The short, wide-mouth jar makes getting the product out with just your hands a bit of a pain – if you put your hand in there and scoop, bits of it inevitably fall on whatever surface you’re working on. I’ve started using a spoon to scoop out what I need, which is a little neater.

Good, natural moisturizer for healing dry or damaged skin.

Real shea butter at a reasonable price. The tub is filled almost to the top with shea butter in its natural, hard form. To use, I normally just scrape up a bit with the back of a fingernail, then rub it between my hands to soften it up, adding warm water to spread better if necessary. A little goes a long way. Shea butter does a fantastic job of softening up extra dry spots that don’t seem to want to heal — like around the knuckles. No noticeable scent, just a good, slightly oily moisture that seems to last. Much better than most crappy lotions with semi-toxic ingredients you can’t even pronounce.

Staple in my home.

Exactly what it needs to be. Not grainy, doesn’t smell funny. Ive been happy and buying for probably 5 years now. We use it for lip balm, hands, feet, and as I get older, a little under the eyes before my eye makeup to ease the look of fine lines 😉 I like that it tends to stay on and absorb well. Not that I will use petroleum jelly, but it stays on almost as well as that in water conditions.

It works great!

Ok so I was not entirely sure this was going to work for me but I have been pleasantly surprised. I live in a very dry area of California and I have extremely dry skin and to top it off I work in an office and handle paper all day. Add all these things together and my hands are very dry no matter how much lotion I put on and my nails are prone to break. After just a few days of using this Shea Butter my hands are the softest they have been since forever and my nails and cuticles look 100% better. Now it does take a minute or two to work into the skin but after that it leaves a clean feeling which is not oily at all. Plus there is no smell which I like.

OK but too hard to use

Expected shea butter to smell nicely, but it has almost no smell/light smell of nuts. Very solid, you often scoop either too much or too little. Use it to prevent skin irritation , as hand cream and sometimes as lip balm. Almost would not melt in hands, so it’s hard to apply it to legs. Does not absorb quickly, so do not recommend to use it as hand cream when in hurry. Anyways, it is a good alternative to expensive body lotions

A good alternative to more expensive brands

I cannot complain about the quality, quantity and price of this product. It makes a great carrier for essential oils or base for balm but on it’s own it is not as refined as more expensive brands. It kinds of smells like peanut shells, but my cats still like to lick it off my feet.

Raw Shea Butter – Great Value

I needed raw shea butter to make my own shaving cream (yay, pinterest, amiright?). I was a little worried about getting the raw product from the tub, but I had no problems. It basically scooped out like frozen ice cream and when I got to the last bits – it all came out in a final clump. The aroma was not unpleasant. The price was excellent – considering other places charge you two arms and an eyeball for raw shea. Since I was using this in a recipe, I’m not sure how useful it would be on its own. It doesn’t seem like it would spread very well on your body (it isn’t a lotion).
